It's always frustrating when the paternal line can be traced back 6
generations, but the maternal line is "were residents of the
Carolinas". I will definitely go looking for ""Biographical Review of
Henry County, Iowa..."
By the way, in my first post, after exchanging e-mails with Christy Jay,
I realized I mixed up my Clarkie/Clarky Jays. The entry from MyTrees
seems to refer to James Hunt's daughter, Clarkey, who may be my
Clarkie's niece.
Thanks to everyone who has helped me with this.

"Biographical Review of Henry County, Iowa Containing Biographical and
Genealogical Sketches of Many of the Prominent Citizens of To-Day and
Also of the Past" (Hobart Publishing Company, Chicago, 1906)... Both the
paternal and maternal grandparents were residents of the Carolinas,
whence they removed to Indiana at an early period in the development of
that state. . . ."
