Gloria - There are several public trees on
Ancestry.com that show this James
L. Hunt born October 20, 1805 in South Carolina, died on January 12, 1884
(no location) who was married to Rachel Cossairt who was born in 1807 in
Warren, Ohio, and died on December 28, 1860, in Iowa. Marriage records show
they married in Warren County, Ohio, on August 21, 1828. In 1860, they were
on the census records for Des Moines, Iowa. James L. Hunt is on the 1880
census records living with his oldest son/family in Des Moines. None of the
trees showed the names of James L. Hunt's parents; so, it was impossible to
tell if your Clarkie Dempsey was James' sister but Clarkie/Clarkey is a very
unusual name and it is more than likely that James and Clarkie Dempsey
were siblings. Karen

Subject: [INRANDOL] Clarkie Hunt Jay
Clarkie Hunt was born 2/14/1803 in SC. She married Dempsey Jay in
Randolph Co., IN in 1827. I think I've found a link to Clarkie's family
in SC, but it's on
MyTrees.com. Is is appropriate for me to ask if any
member of this list has a subscription to that service to do a lookup
for me? I can see that the person who entered their Hunt family tree
has listed Clarkie's father as HUNT, JAMES, and her mother as HUNT,
RACHEL.
I also found a James L. Hunt, born in SC in 1806, married to Rachel in
OH, living in Trenton, Henry County, IA in 1850, who has a child born
that year by the name of Clarky. Trenton is only 15 miles from where
Clarkie Hunt Jay and Dempsey Jay were living, also in 1850. I think
James and Clarkie may be siblings, but I'm not sure.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Gloria
