The following info is what I copied years ago. Now I can understand
why I had the notation "Don't understand house numbers. Did I
rearrange the children and put Margaret in between Absalom and Sarah?
I do have the other 1850 census which just lists Margaret J.
I guess since they weren't the direct descendants I was looking for, I
got careless. Glad you pointed this out to me. I tried to re-lookup
the census and did not have any luck. I thought I could go back to it
on
Ancestry.com. I originally found it in SLC Family History Library.

Have you been in contact with Shirley Teats? Here is some
communication I had from her:
Daer Karleen,
I saw your letter and wondered if you might help me. My g-g-grandfather was
Henry Patterson, married Sarah Adamson ,9/13/1840, Grant Co, in. Their
daughter was Margaret Patterson and I believe she was born in Grant Co.
Sarah's parents lived in Randolph Co., in. before moving to Grant Co. Do we
have any kind of a conection?

Other correspondence I have had:
Family Group sheet sent by Joseph M. Patterson--listed Abagail ORCULT
married to Thomas Patterson father Liberty Patterson & Martha
Garringer of Jay, Indiana. This Abagail would have been WAY TO OLD.
1850 Census has her last child being born in 1845????
Abigail Orcutt Patterson Cantrell: 1st marriage to Thomas Patterson.
His estate papers dated 30 March 1829. He must have been one of the
early settlers of Randolph County. In those papers, there are notes
to show at least part of the children of Thomas and Abigail: Joseph,
Elizabeth, Lorenzo, Mary, Liberty, and Polly.
1848 Jan 28,. Lorenzo "S"? Patterson made a claim against Zebulon's
Estate claiming he worked for 4 days in March of 1847 for Zebulon
Cantrell and was never paid. He is asking for $2.50. Cant.doc110 pg.

Karleen,
I have very little factual information about Abigail. I have she was
born abt 1794 in Kentucky and married Thomas Patterson. He was born
abt 1775 and died abt 1829. They had two children Gilbert Patterson
and Joseph Patterson. Gilbert was born in Indiana about 1827.
I believe Abigail is the sister to Joseph Cyrus Orcutt. Joseph Cyrus
Orcutt had a son Amos Orcutt who is my husband's GGGG??Grandfather. In
the 1850 census Amos Orcutt is living in Huntington Co., IN with
Gilbert Patterson (above).
So I THINK Abigail is the daughter of William Hammer Orcutt & Sarah
Sykes. But I cannot prove this, nor can I prove that Joseph Cyrus
Orcutt is the son of William Hammer Orcutt. I have seen this published
in a book on the Rarick family (Joseph Cyrus Orcutt married Christina
Rarick), but I went to Campbell Co., KY where William Hammer Orcutt
lived/died, but could not find any information to tie the two
together. Anyway, this line ties into the Mayflower family of Mary
Chilton. So it would be interesting to find concrete proof.
Hope this helps.

Since you are actively researching this line, possibly something will "click".

Karleen,
On the 1850 census Abigail Cantril is listed with one Patterson child,
Margaret J. I do not know who her parents are, but assume she is Abigail's
daughter, being born before she married Zebulon Cantrell.
There is a mistake in the page numbering on the census. Look at the "house
visited in order" numbers and the "family visited in order" numbers. You
will find that they don't match up. Also, the day that Abigail was counted
was Oct. 24 and the children listed on next page after her were counted on
Oct. 26. The extra children are actually children of William and Catherine
Williams. You can find them in Green Township also.
Another clue is that there is an empty space after Margaret J. That
suggests that the family names of Abigail Cantril household has been
completed.
I continue to search for clues about Thomas Patterson and decided to try to
determine if he was a Quaker.

Does anyone know who the Patterson children belong to who are listed
with Abigail Orcutt Patterson Cantrill on the 1850 Randolph census?
