Keller Leaving County – Had Lived In Winchester 92 Years
Winchester lost one of its oldest residents today when George Keller
left his home at 512 West North street, to make his home with a daughter
and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Hiestand, in Brookville, Ohio.
Mr. Keller came to Winchester from Crawford county, Ohio, when he was
two years old, and in two months will observe his 94^th birthday. He
claims to be the second oldest living man in Winchester.
He was in the grocery business in Winchester for 23 years in the present
location of the Wenger's book store. Mr. Keller's father [George G.
Keller] was a shoe-maker and had his business in the present site of the
Sunshine cleaners. [His mother was Catherine Kayser.]
In August of 1878 Mr Keller was married to Rebecca Stiles, who died in
1919. They were the parents of four children, the daughter in Brookville
being the only living child.
Mr. Keller made his last visit to the News and Journel-Herald office
yesterday and expressed his regret at having to leave the city. He has
been in poor health for the past several months and thought it advisable
that he made his home with his daughter.
[George W. Keller died in Brookville, OH. on Sept. 13, 1949, aged 96
years, 3 months and 5 days. He was buried in Fountain Park Cemetery,
Winchester, IN]
