The further I go, the less I know!! LOL IM wondering if there is anyway to
confirm the births of these children born in Indiana. A cousin has access to
a family bible and its really stirring things up here. I am no where near
ready to publish a biography of Moses McCarty for a history book being
written in Gallia County, OH. So IM working on his parents biography as they
are established with census's and documentation.
Here is my problem with Moses McCarty. His obit said he and his 2nd wife
Elizabeth had eight children. So I think maybe one of the children I have
listed with his first wife is actually from the second wife, and the other
child I am missing may be buried in Lowell, NE is my best guess.

McCarty, Ester Evaline, daughter of Moses and Mary McCarty, died November

was I, As I am now, you soon must be, Prepare for death and follow me."
McCarty, Jonas W. November 24, 1859 Aged 3y 8m 13d.
McCarty, S.J. died November 28, 1859, aged 9y 8m 10d. "Weep not for me dear
mother. All is well, All is well."
McCarty, Fasta R. died November 25, 1859, aged 12 years 5 days. "Weep not

McCarty, Nissordrie, 1859, aged 1y 9m 20d.

McCarty, Mary, Born December 26, 1822, died June 3, 1901, aged 78y 5m 7d.
They certainly lost a lot of children at one time. All of this may only
muddy the waters for you as this Mary did not die until 1901. Does that
mean that this Mary and Moses were divorced?
pg. 25.
McCarty, Infant, daughter of M. and E. McCarty.
died February 7, 1867.
McCarty, U.S. Grant, Son of M. & E. McCarty. Died April 16, 1866, aged 12
years, 4 months, 14days.
These appear to be Moses and Elizabeth. From the birthdates of these
children, Moses and Elizabeth would have had to be married before 1852.
It is interesting to note that these people are all buried in a line with a
Nathan Darst, 8 year of son of Wm, and Barbara who died in 1860 buried
between John E. and Mary.
In the next row behind these is Wm and Barbara Darst., Mary Elizabe Ault and
then the two children of M.& E, McCarty. Are the Darst's related to the
McCarty's in some way.
Checking the 1870 census I found
In Madison Twp., page 14, household 106 family 106.
Moses McCarty, 50, born Ohio, a Farmer
Elizabeth, 32, born Indiana
Laura A., 2, born Indiana
In Knox Twp., is the following]
pg 2, household 12, family 12
Charles E. McCarty, 34, born Ohio, Farmer
Rachel P., 28, born Ohio, wife
Glenna 2, born Indiana
Ella, 1, born Indiana.
Hope this has helped. Phyllis
