Wow, Shelley, what a neat find. Hope someone out there can lay claim to it. Maybe we can

Shelley Cardiel <familia(a)sprintmail.com> wrote:I've "rescued" an old
letter written by Hannah JACOB WEISIGER (Mrs. W.H.
WEISIGER) of 1007 W Main Street, Richmond, Virginia to Miss Xenia M.A. SMITH
of Winchester, Indiana. The letter is dated August 31, 1887 and includes
quite a bit of family news and information. Clues to the families identity
within the letter include:
Hannah's Mother passed away one year before the letter was written
Allie & Frank visit Mother's grave and take flowers
Allie & his wife Jennie are living with Pa in the old house
Allie & Jennie's young son was wounded in an accident and lost one eye
Hannah's brother Frank is married with two children, a boy Cary and girl
Lucy
Frank's daughter Lucy is named after Hannah's Mother
All live in Richmond, VA
Dr. READ is still pastor at his church
Dr. HOGE is still preaching as well
Miss Nannie is married now and so is Mrs. PAULLIN, they live in Alabama
Uncle PERRIN is living in the old home in West Dedham, MA
Aunt Jennie married Mr. DICKERSON and lives near Hannah in Richmond, VA with
6 children
Aunt Mary has three children
Hannah's Mother was from the Northern States
Also included in the letter are a number of newspaper clippings of
remembrances of "Mothers" and poems about those who have passed on. Some
include names but may very well just be poems and sentiments that Xenia or
Hannah liked and wanted to keep.
Based on limited research I believe that Hannah's brother is actually John
Franklin JACOB b. 1852 at Richmond, VA and their parents were Caleb JACOB
and Lucy Jane COLBURN. During the 1880 census the family was living at
Henrico, VA including Caleb age 58 b. in VA, Lancy J. (Lucy?) age 55 b. in
MA, Benjamin A. (Allie?) age 31, John F. (Frank?) age 27, Hannah P. age 23,
Ella V. (Jennie? maybe short for Virginia?) age 31 who is Benjamin's wife,
Benjamin age 3 who is Benjamin & Ella's son, and two servants.
Frank and his wife listed as either Nettie SNEED or Henrietta MOORE are
reported to have two children Cary Franklin JACOB b. 15 Sept 1885 at
Richmond Co., VA, and died in Charlottesville, VA in Jan 1974, and a
daughter, Lucy Jane JACOB b. 26 Nov 1886 at Richmond Co., VA, she is said to
have died in 1890.
I'm hoping to locate someone from this family so that these wonderful old
memories and family news can be cherished and kept with the families
history. If you are a member of this family or know someone who might be,
please contact me.
Thanks,
Shelley
