IHS hosts genealogy lecture
The Indiana Historical Society will host a genealogy lecture titled,
"Using Baptist Church Records in Genealogy, with an Emphasis on
Nineteenth-Century Indiana Baptists," from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on
Saturday, October 19 at the Society's headquarters, 450 W. Ohio Street,
Indianapolis. Reverend Timothy Mohon, a Baptist minister and an
experienced historical and genealogical researcher, will lead the
lecture.
Mohon will discuss three doctrinal distinctives of the Baptists that are
problematic for genealogical research and explain how an understanding
of these characteristics will aid researchers in finding information on
Baptist ancestors. He also will explain what information can be found in
Baptist church records, both congregational and denominational, and
share the locations of these sometimes elusive records.
The cost to attend the lecture is $10; $5 for IHS members. Registration
deadline is October 11. To register for genealogy programs at the IHS
call (317) 233-5659, e-mail csorensen(a)indianahistory.org or download the
registration brochure at
