Martha McGuire Burnham
Martha Jane McGuire, the oldest child of William and Susanne McGuire, was
born at Farmland Indiana August 5, 1865.
As the twilight shadows hovered over her home, on the evening of APril
25, 1936 in Redfield Iowa, at the age of 70 years, 8 months and 20 days,
"God's finger touched her and she fell asleep to be with Him" whom early
in life she had accepted as her guide and savior.
When a child of seven years she came to Iowa with her parents and has lived
her entire life in and around Redfield.
On June 4, 1881 she was united in marriage to Chrales E. Burnham who survives
her. During their married life they were blessed with seven children, two
passing away in infancy, Arthur Orville Burnham of Redfield, Perry Franklin,
who enlisted in the World War and on July 30, 1918 gave his life, Mary
Etta Tate of Jefferson, John Pearl Burnham of Redfield, Susanne Dickey
of Redfield. Besides the four living children and their wives, and husbands,
she leaves 14 grandchildren and four great grandchildren, four sisters
and two brothers, Mrs Ida Weenes of Adel, Mrs Dollie Shillito of Valley
Junction, Mrs Dessie Stever of Adel, Mrs Bessie Robbins of Lead SD, Charley
McGuire of Redfield, and George McGuire of Columbus Nebr.
She leaves many close relatives and friends. WHile the active years of
her life were busy ones and her home and family were her first consideration,
she was never too busy to lend a helping hand, always ready to defend and
encourage the unfortunate. Her door was always open to all and it was among
those who knew her best and loved her most that the closest ties were formed.
Funeral services were conducted at the ME church with the paster, Rev.
STroud in charge. Burial was made in Morrisburg cemetery, April 27, 1936.
