Jennie --
I am really intrigued with your grandfather's memories. When we first
started looking into the HIATT family tree, it was quite a mystery where the
RILEY came from in the family.
We have six Mary Hiatt's. The closest we come is -- I have a Mary A.
Hiatt, daughter of Allen Riley Hiatt b. Feb 20 1829 Guilford Co. N.
Carolina,
died Oct 22 1910 location unknown.
Mary's mother was Mary Clark, born Nov.. 1829 Warren County Ohio.
We have a Pleasant STANLEY b. Dec 3 1829 Union Indiana,
died Dec 11 1874 Carter Missouri,
married to Nancy Hiatt born Feb 1 1835 Randolph County,
died May 24 1913 Portland, Indiana.
I don't have any BARNETT in the Hiatt tree.
Jennie, I haven't done any work on the Hiatt line since my husband died,
nearly two years ago. Haven't had much heart for it.
My husband's grandfather was Enos Riley Hiatt, b. 17 may 1861 -- married to
his cousin Mary Elizabeth Stanley b. 1863, died 27 April 1932 Winchester,
Randolph County.
Their sons were named Rhea (yes -- male -- his son Burt Hiatt, age about 85,
still lives in Winchester) -- and the second son was DeLoe Robert Hiatt,
Sr. -- my husband's father.
Enos Riley Hiatt was the son of Eli Hodgson Hiatt, b. 1821 or 1828 -- died
22 March 1869 in Missouri.
Eli Hodgeson Hiatt was married to HIS cousin, Anna Hiatt, daughter of Eli
Hiatt b. 27 Oct. 1801 Chillicothe OHIO
and Mary Conner b. 1805 Georgia, d. 1848 RandolphCounty.
I don't have a clue about Pleasant HIATT -- ours is Pleasant Stanley,
married to Hiatt.
And Riley Hiatt. Hmm. We've got TWO "Allen Riley Hiatt" entries, but NO
"Riley Hiatt"
One Allen Riley Hiatt was born in 1829, the other in 1860.
The 1829 one was born in North Carolina, died in Randolph County 1910.
Parents John Hiatt 1778 and Rachel Glandon 1786. Married to Mary Clark.
The one born in 1860 -- I don't have birth info, except -- parents Amos
Hiatt and Martha Robertson; he was married to Emma Trueblood.
Let me know if I can help further -- or when YOU discover a link!
Thanks,
Karen King Hiatt

You have mentioned a Stanley and a Riley Hiatt. My great-grandfather, Enos
Barrett Barnett, was married to a Mary Hiatt. In my grandfather's story of
his life, he mentions an Uncle Riley Hiatt and an Uncle Pleasant Hiatt as
visiting him in Randolph Co., IN. His mother died, when he was only a year
old and he never knew, who his grandparents Hiatt were. Grandpa was born in
1849 and his mother died in 1850. Do you have any information about a Mary
Hiatt as a relative of your Stanley and Riley Hiatt. I can give you
information from Enos Barrett Barnett and his wife, Mary Hiatt, but I have
nothing for sure from before that time. Jennie Barnett Vertrees
