Dear Friends,
Ever since I became coordinator of the Randolph Co. Genealogy web site I
have
made space for many of your family genealogies. At the time, there were
few other places for posting of this information.
The conversion of your data into web pages has taken time, and the files
take up a lot of space (including all the backup files I must keep on my
own computer).
I wanted to let you know that at the end of the year I will remove all the
family files that are presently stored at the web site. At the present time,
your surnames in that data are not necessarily indexed.
There are, however, better options for you. If you have your own web
site, I will gladly link to it from the Randolph Co. site.
Rootsweb established the WorldConnect project a couple of years back. That's
a
great place to upload your family information, because all of your
surnames will be placed in a worldwide index so that researchers can
easily find your data without necessarily knowing where the individual
may have resided, something not possible with the current arrangement
(that's where I've placed my family data).
With the WorldConnect project you can, when uploading data, set several
options, such as preventing display of information about living
individuals, preventing people from downloading all of
your information if you wish, and others. Your data is protected and
will not be sold or published anywhere else, yet it is available for
researchers who search the WorldConnect project to view free of charge.
If this causes a significant problem for you, please let me know and
I'll see what I can do to help. But I believe the WorldConnect is the
best solution because of the full index available.
