Please reply if anyone connects to Samuel.
Samuel Edwin Byrd, was born in Randolph county, Indiana, on September 24, 1855, and
died September 29, 1906, at the age of 51 years and 5 days, in a hospital at Wichita,
Kans., where he had been under medical care for five weeks.
He came to Pratt, Kans. in 1885, and from there to Wellsford the next spring, and on
November 27, 1889 was married to Cora A. Davis, of Haviland.
He was converted in August, 1893, at an M. E. camp meeting held at Wellsford by
Brother Dunning and the pastor, Brother Clapper, and with his wife was received into the
M. E. church by Brother Erie.
He lived in the neighborhoods of Wellsford, Providence, Prairie Flower, Haviland, and
Greensburg and everywhere was well esteemed.
Being isolated from the M.E. church, he and his family joined the Friends at Prairie
Flower in the spring of 1904, and are yet members of that meeting.
He was a consistent Christian, never fearing to uphold the cause of Christ, was always
sympathetic and cheerful and had a sincere love of his associates.
His last testimony was clear and decisive. Three days before the end in bidding his
little daughter good-bye, he said, "I want you all to be good amd meet me in
Heaven". To his mother-in-law he expressed himself as "ready, ready", and
to the nurse he said, "I am sorry to leave my family, but I am ready to go at any
time",, so that while we mourn him, a sister and three brothers, his dear wife and
two sons and one daughter, with hosts of friends.
Funeral services at the Friends church, Haviland, in charge of Isaac A. Woodard,
October 1, 1906.
