The Pension records are at the National Archives and
reasonably well indexed. It does help if you know what
regiment he served in (to eliminate others with the
same name). Considering he was living in Ohio, it was
most likely an Ohio regiment.
Does Indiana have any state censuses?
The National Archives does have a website about the
Civil War and the paperwork. The last time I did
research in person, everything was in DC, but I have a
vague recollection about the actual archives moving to
another location.

I have a question that someone might be able to help
me with. One of my gg
grandfathers was in the civil war, he was enlisted
in OH, and lived in OH at
the time. Sometime after the 1870 census, he and
family moved to Huntington
Co, IN. He died before the 1880 census in
Huntington Co. I have a death
date from a one line obit in the newspaper, but no
idea of where he is
buried at, or when his wife died. Still looking! I
know that there are no
census records for 1890 for Indiana, and the 1890
census for veterans and
their widows was also lost to us for Indiana. So
here is my question. If
she applied for his war pension, would I find
records in the Indiana State
Library or do I need to seek info in Ohio? Andrea
