Hi Folks,
I thought I'd send out a reminder to all regarding obituaries. Please
note that under current copyright law, any obituary published after
about 1923 may be under copyright protection. If you plan to post an
obituary to the Obit Message Board or to this list, you should be sure
that you have received permission from the copyright holder, often the
newspaper, to do so.
Note that the actual facts of the obituary (names, dates, places, etc.)
CANNOT be copyrighted, only the presentation of those facts, that is the
actual write up. So you can always safely extract those facts as long as
you don't copy the obituary verbatim.
Please let me know if you have any questions, as copyright can be a
complicated issue.
