Subject: [INROOTS] Indiana Historical Society Lecture
The Indiana Historical Society will host a genealogy lecture, "Finding
Ancestors Who Have Fallen Through the Cracks of Time," from 10 a.m. - 12
p.m. on November 16 at the Society's headquarters, 450 W. Ohio Street.
Genealogist Chris McHenry will discuss how to find and use little-known
sources, such as county commissioner records, county poor records,
newspapers and other sources that may have information about people who
did not own land or leave probate records.
M. Teresa Baer, editor of The Hoosier Genealogist, will share some
of the manuscript sources she uses for articles and will talk about the
types of records used for IHS genealogy books, such as church meeting
minutes, orphanage admissions records and early political records.
The cost to attend the lecture is $10; $5 IHS members. Seating is
limited. Registration deadline is November 8. To register call (317)

Since 1830, the Indiana Historical Society has been Indiana's
storyteller, connecting people to the past by collecting, preserving,
interpreting and disseminating Indiana history. The independent,
nonprofit organization also publishes books and periodicals; sponsors
teacher workshops; provides youth, adult and family programming; assists
local historical groups throughout the state; and maintains the world's
largest collection of material on the history of Indiana and the Old
Northwest. The Indiana Historical Society is one of the oldest
historical societies in the United States, and one of the largest with
more than 10,000 members. (
