Hi Diane:
I have been looking for the location of Thomas & Mary Welch between
1800-1816. He was in Bellbrook, Ohio, in about 1830 and then in 1837 was in
Randolph County. Found deeds for both of these times. Since I am far from
any source that would have the book you mentioned, could you do me a favor
and see if there are any records for Thomas Welch by himself or Thomas &
Mary Welch in this book. Believe she may have been Mary Clawson born in
Montgomery or Shelby County. They had a son William born near Dayton, Ohio,
in 1816. Many thanks for your help.
Karen Welch

Subject: Re: [INRANDOL] Look UP (Census 1800) Samuel Smith clues
To the list and for WYOEAGLE.....
There is a book "Land purchased in Southwest Ohio 1800-1840" , by Ellen T.
Berry & David A. Berry
pub. Baltimore by Genealogical Pub. in 1986.....there are only a few
listings for the name of
Samuel Smith.....
NAME Date Purch. Residence
Land
located SURVEY
SMITH:
Samuel Aug. 4, 1803 he was listed as from Kentucky...purchased in R02
T05 S04 (A)
Samuel Oct. 07, 1812 listed from Greene Co. OH " "
R08 T03 S11 (C)
Samuel Dec. 02, 1817 " " Greene Co. OH "
"
R08 T03 S11 (C)
Samuel Dec. 08, 1813 " " Preble Co. OH "
" R13 T17 S10 (E)
Samuel Feb. 10, 1818 " " Clinton Co. OH "
" R14 T18 S07 (E)
Here is your clue.....the letters indicating A, C, E....at the end
indicate:
A-Miami River Survey..........more the area of Montgomery, Miami Co's in
Ohio
C-Between the Miamis Survey ...more closely postioned to the Miami Co.,
etc. area.
E-East and North of the 2nd. Princiiple Meridian Survey=(which are lands
of
the "GORE" area
of Indiana just west of the Ohio state line...which puts that into the
Randolph Co. area)
I believe your Samuel Smith has to be one of the above listed men, and the
most likely one
is the one who came from the "E" ;and purchases...if you check into the
lands where you
KNOW they lived....it might be proven to you by finding the R/T/S of his
land purchases and
where they lived in Randolph Co. You gotta get a view of a plat map to
check that out.
I sent the person asking these questions on Smith & Calhoun and a
marriage...the record from
the LDS site which indicated Virginia & W. VA locations for birth and
marriage.....
Quite possibly the family moved from VA to S/W Ohio and then to Indiana
early on....not everyone
came with families in those early years when the migrations began...young
men came to area
to fight the Indians..then went home to get their brides and other family
members.
Migrating was a group & family move....so there would be more hands to
help
settle new lands
and open up the new place.
Cheers, Diane G.
