Actually what I was asking is why is this one named White RIVER Church when it is not in
White River Twp and isn't near White River, unless my geography is completely
crazy!........phd

Tonya, PHD, and others, the White River cemetery you are thinking of
is the
one at the White River Friends and is called White River Friends Cemetery.
It is north of the Moose, at the bend in the road on 100 East close to Base
Rd East. It is cared for by the Friends as far as I know. The one that Rex
is refering to is the White River Christain Church with a cemetery. I did
talk with Monisa today, and she repeated what Mark Davis has said. Also she
said that donations are needed to help repair many of the cemeteries as the
only other money is alotted by the county does not cover much, and she hopes
that since everyone is so interested in these old cemeteries that you will
all take action to help us preserve them. I also asked her why I couldn't
find it in the 1882 History Book for the county by Tucker, she said that he
called it the cemetery near Windsor or East of Windsor, latter I will look
throught the book for where it is listed in there. She also said that the
church was built about 1861, with bricks made on site.
Both churches and cemeteries are within walking distance of White River, as
it meanders a lot through this county, hence both use the name. Friends is
really close and the Christian one is south of the river about 1/4 mile.
Cedar Creek Friends Cemetery is just due west of the White River Christian
Church and cemetery. Remember there are also two Riverside Cemeteries and
two Hoover Cemeteries in this county as well, just in different townships,
two Union Cemeteries as well I think.
About those Medalions, there are some still for sale, they are very nice
looking, I believe Sharon Smith said that all the gold ones are gone last
month, and that would leave silver and bronze or copper ones (I think they
are bronze, can't remember for sure). These are for the old
Heaston/Winchester Cemetery restoration funds. I forgot my camera today, so
I didn't go yet. Andrea

I'm concerned about this discussion and the use of the name White River
cemetery because the only one I know is down the road from the Moose to the
east of Winchester. Some of the first residents of Randolph County were
buried there, most of them my ancestors. That's nowhere near Windsor so I'm
very confused. Tonya Fouse Krout

I know the Historical Society has been trying to raise the money to finish
the old Winchester cemetery. They were selling medallions I am not sure if
they have any left or not. Andrea may be able to find out more about that.

I'm confused. White River Twp is southeast of Winchester. I thought White
Water was southwest. So why is this called White River Church when it is
over near Modoc?
Sorry.......phd
