BlankI was recently asked, "what can I do with my 10 year old while I'm in
town doing genealogy?"
Of course I deal with 3 years olds, so nap time was out of the question. So
I asked a friend of mine for suggestions.

There is now a cinema at the courthouse square, I just got back from
watching the new kiddie movie, the theater is very nice. $4 to watch a
movie, not bad, pop corn was $1. Movies and time may variety.
You could call ahead and make arrangements through the YMCA to do the CAMP
YALE, which is an outdoor activity center, you would have to ask what the
focus will be, but I've been told they do a lot of hiking and fishing while
there. CampYale is located across the highway from the 4-H Fair Grounds, on
US 27, south of Winchester.
There is a small, fenced in park about 3 blocks south of the RCInMuseum.
It's between Main and Meridian Streets on Orange Street.
For race fans, there is the Winchester Speedway, located at IN 32 and 300
west. They are up and racing again on weekends.
Tours of the firehouse are given.
There is the Aloha Steel Guitar Convention, I think there is a small
collection for that as well. I will have to get details on that if anyone
is interested.
Of course, since the many places are run on volunteer time like the museum,
we can always use extra volunteers to do some things while they are there.
The Winchester Library has a great children's department upstairs. There
are computers to do homework, serf the net safely, and play video games on
as well. The library is located at the intersections of e.North Street and
n.East Street.
If I can think of anything else, I'll pass them on. Hopefully this will
help someone. Andrea Long
