Yes it is still there. There were no races at all last year but this year
they started to race again. Up until 3 years ago or a little less weekend
races were well attended, many camped in front of the speedway. A few have
this summer, but it will take awhile to get back the patronage.
Here is a satellite photo of the race track (Funk Race Track, now the
Winchester Speedway), the pond to the north can be seen, and on the corner
of 300W and IN 32 is the Funk-Kritsch home.

There are quite a few homes on that lake. It is a very tightly watched
neighborhood, if you don't belong there you are stopped and questioned.
I've only been back there once, to a friends house back there, so I can't
tell you much about the homes that are there.

Is the Funk Speedway still in existence?
In the early '40s, ten Winchester men, including my foster father, Bruce
Maxwell, bought the 11 acre spring-fed lake behind the speedway where the
old amusement park had been. They divided it into building lots and dad was
the first to build there. We spent quite a lot of time there throughout the
year, but particularly in the summer. Sometimes on race days it was
impossible to get in or out while a race was in progress.
When we moved from Winchester in 1951, there were still no other homes or
cottages built there. I wonder how many homes have been built there since.
It was so lovely there.
