What years do the records you have cover?
I was in the museum last week one day and asked about funeral home records.
Huntington and most libraries that have sizable genealogy departments have
some funeral home records. Ms. M. took me to a file cabinet there and
showed me what was there. So here is what is there....
Middletone Mortuary has year/date & names in family from 1904-1907 and
1898-1903; Basically it is who purchased the services. Fraze name
associated with it in 1900 records of paying accounts. So this will not
give much genealogy information but may give a clue to when some passed
away. There is not much rhyme or reason to the order of the records.
Morton-Thomas Funeral Home (Lynn, IN) owners and operators Walter I. Morton
and Russell Thomas, records from Nov. 22, 1910 to Dec. 1913. Records were
donated by Ralph Morton of Dayton, OH. It is Indexed and has Burial/Death
Info. Very nice, clear records.
Thornburg Funeral Home (Farmland, IN) 1911-1939 9 books transcribed, not
indexed by name but by year, Name & Name of arranger, age and Date.
Connarroe Funeral Home (Modoc, IN) 1926-1934 (partial) these are the actual
records, they are basically in alphabetical order but some are out of place,
not sure what is missing but the letter from Max Smith of Losantville who
donated them stated they were partial records in 1999 and he got them from
Howard M. Smith in 1972. These are great records and one record I found
confirmed parentage (bio and adopted) for one of my RAOGK, Lots of great
info on these and very clear, clean paperwork.
I am going to go to the Fraze-Brook Funeral Home in Union City and get
copies of records from 1940 to ? and hopefully some more records from the
Thomas Funeral Home in Lynn, Kyle Good, is the director of both and he is
very willing to share with me as long as I do the work.
I am going to get the records at the museum indexed as well so that they can
be used as well by all of us researchers. Andrea
