Pat: Saw your query Sterling relatives - and think we may have a tie in to common ancestor
back in KY. Know you all have been seeing info on Isaac Jacob who hailed from back in
Trimble Co, KY. Don't know how much info you have on him - but the link back with his
father appears to be as follows:
Working backwards from Ira A Starling (1900 Trimble Co, census) who was son of Caroline
(Farley) Sterling who was sister to Isaac Jacob Sterling, who was son of John &
Catherine Sterling ( all listed in 1880 Trimbe Co, census). Here is where I think we have
a link. John Sterling (1880 Trimble Co census) appears to be same John Starling (1870
Trimble Co. census - since 1870 census lists members of his househould as wife Catherine,
and children Isaac, William, and Caroline. The lets take it one step further back. 1830
Gallatin Co, KY census lists a John Starling as head of household. 1840 Gallatin Co.
census lists a John Sterling as head of household. Both of these are too old to be our
John Starling/Sterling from above - BUT - I'd be willing to bet that our John
Starling/Sterling from 1830-40 oldest son was named John, which seemed to be common naming
convention back then?? Anyway, I thought I would offer this as food for thought. Would be
interested in sharing KY-IN Starl!
ing/Sterling family research notes if you are interested. Have been working on Starling
family in Trimble, Henry, Carroll, Gallatin, Oldham, and Jefferson Counties in KY - and
their migration across river into Perry, Johnson, Marion, Hendricks, Shelby (and others to
be identified) Counties in Indiana. Let me know. Thanks.
Mike
