Further research indicates that Sarah's maiden name was probably Mande, and that
Householder was the last name of her first husband. I suspect Sarah was the daughter of
John Mande, shown living in Troy, Miami County, Ohio in the 1850 census. I still think she
could be the Sarah Householder shown living with Jane (Maple, Brown) Bradford in Coshocton
County in the 1860 census. I suspect the former Mrs. Brown took her in after Sarah's
teenage marriage with the Householder fellow didn't work out. I have two reasons for
believing this. First, the 1850 census shows Sarah Mande's mother has died, so Sarah
probably knew little about her. She said her mother's maiden name was Brown on her
marriage license application with Zimri Reynard, but her siblings' obituaries say
their mother's maiden name was Manda or Mandie. Second, I can find no record of John
Mande or his other children after the 1850 census, perhaps indicating that Sarah had lost
her family and Mrs. Brown had taken her in,!
and then given her a place to live after her first marriage failed.
