Thanks Sonja, interesting idea. Being Quaker myself, I know that there are
well kept records from Quaker Meetings but not sure on other denominations.

Subject: [INRANDOL] records searching
Andrea, another place to look for ancestors prior to 1790 are church tithes
lists. Most of the folks back in those days were expected to pay church
tithes & records were kept of them. In some cases you can "google" the
county & state, and hone it down to "tithes". Some of them in the eastern
states will be online.
Question for any & all:
My gt.gt.gt.gt.grandpa, Charles C.Conway, was Randolph County's first court
clerk. In the Hist. of Randolph Co. book, it's said that Charle's Dad was
killed in St.Clair's Defeat --which battle took place near present-day
Ft.Recovery in Ohio. I have searched in vain for a roster or list of the
men who served with Gen.St.Clair, whether regular army, militia, or
volunteers. You'd think there would be some records somewhere of these men.
The Conway who was killed in the surprise attack of the Northwest
Confederated Indian tribes on 4 Nov. 1791, is an illusive man, so far. Any
hints or ideas where I might obtain such a roster? Have checked with NARA &
a couple of PA. libraries, nothing there. Before going any furthur back,
our family needs his name. Thanks ahead for all your input.
