Hello,
Tonight on PBS "The War," a new Ken Burns series will begin. It
promises to show the human side of the war.
To go along with this, I have this afternoon mounted a gift to all of us
from Billy Baker -- the 1945 obituaries from the Union City Times
Gazette. These obituaries cover a large area of Darke and Randolph
counties.
Before the decedent index, I have listed the 76 men whose obituaries
were published that year as casualties of World War II. We can easily
see how our small, rural area was so heavily touched by this terrible
war.
This brings the number of obituaries that Billy has transcribed from the
Union City Times Gazette (and its predecessor title) to over 5,280. I
can't express how grateful I am for this gift. Thank you Billy!!!
