I am researching a family that is part of my Marks-Mehringer family and found that a line
moved into Porter CO. I was wondering if someone could do an obit look-up for me.
Here is the info:
James "Jim" Albert Chumbley md Caroline Marie "Carrie" Marks on Jul
28, 1900 in Dubois CO (Jasper), IN. They did have six children-- Regina Juliana
"Lillie" Chumbley, Theresa Lawrence Chumbley, Blanche Emma Catherine Chumbley,
Joseph Martin John Chumbley, Stephen Chumbley and Margaret Beline Chumbley.
Three of the children were baptized at St. Mary's in Huntingburg. I do not know
where Stephen or Margaret were baptized. And I do not know where Margaret was born.
James and Carrie were living in in Dubois CO in 1900, with their respective families in
1900, they married after the 1900 census, I haven't found them in 1910 yet, they
were living in Vanderburgh CO, IN (Evansville) in 1920, and in Porter CO in 1930.
Between 1920 and 1930 Jim changed his name to James Albert Martin and is enumerated as
James Martin in 1930. James and Carrie are buried in the Porter CO Hebron Cem-- Sec.
2, row 35. Only years are listed--
Carrie M. Martin 1877-1961
James A. Martin 1875-1957
A son, Joseph Martin John Chumbley is buried at Hebron Cem also--
Joseph Martin 1906-1990 sec 2, row 16
Would anyone have access to obits from this time? I think Carrie may have died Aug 1,
1961, but didn't find an obit for her in the Dubois CO paper as she did have a
sibling or two living in the county when she died. And would anyone know why James
changed his name to Martin? His father was Martin Chumbley. Thanks so much.
