Dr. Aline C. Fernandez
(nee Callis)
Dr. Aline C. Fernandez (nee Callis), 73, of Chesterton, Indiana and a lifelong
area resident, passed away at St. Anthony's Hospital on Monday, January 9,
1995.
Aline was Retired Associate Professor Emeritus of Education at Indiana
University Northwest. She was a graduate of Horace Mann High School in Gary,
received her Associate of Arts Degree at Whitworth College, Brookhaven,
Mississippi, Bachelor of Arts at Hanover College, Hanover, IN. and Master of
Arts and Doctorate of Education at Northwestern University, Evanston, IL.
She taught and supervised at the Merrillville, Gary and Crown Point schools, at
Northwestern University, University of Florida, Gainsville, Florida, Valparaiso
University, Indiana University Northwest, University of Central Michigan, Mt.
Pleasant, Michigan, University of Puget Sound, Tacoma, Washington and the
University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
She traveled extensively throughout the continental United States. She traveled to Europe
and to Spain.
Survivors are two step-sons, Andrew (Carol) Fernandez, Jr. of Venice,
Florida and Luther (Martha) Fernandez of Chesterton, IN; one step-daughter, Emilie
(John) Kovich of Rockville, IN.; five step-grandchildren; several step great
grndchildren; cousin, John (Marilyn) McConnell of Crown Point; and numerous
other loving cousins and friends.
Preceded in death by her parents, Maurice and
Lena Callis and her husband, Andrew Fernandez, Sr.
Funeral services Thursday, January 12, 1995, 10 a.m. at the Burns Funeral
Home (corner of 101st & Broadway) Merrillville/Crown Point Chapel, Dr. Clay
Nuttal officiating.
Interment at Ridgelawn Cemetery, Gary, Indiana.
Friends may call at
the Burns Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2 to 8 p.m.
Contributions may be made to the Central Baptist Church in Hobart or to the I.U.N. Andrew
Fernandez Sr., Scholarship Fund.
