Hello,
The bio of James Richard Malone states this:
Counties of Porter and Lake, Indiana, Historical and Biographical," p. 336
James R. Malone, grain-dealer and farmer, is the eldest son of Wilson
Malone, deceased, one of the pioneers of Porter County. His birth,
Frebruary 7, 1843, occurred in this county, and he was here reared to
manhood. When twenty years old, he went to Montana Territory, where for
five years he was engaged in mining. In 1867, returned, and Jan 1, 1868,
married Miss Mary E. Smith, and settled down to farming, at which he
continued until 1876. In that year, he was the choice of the Democratic
party for County Sheriff, and, although Porter County ususally gives a
Republican majority of 500, he was elected, and re-elected with increased
majority, serving in all for years. Since that time he has been dealing in
grain and looking after his farm, which consists of 700 acres in Boone
Township. T*o his union with Miss Smith there have been born eight children
- Charley (dead), Kittie, Bessie, Wilson, Henry, Richard, James D. and
Frank. *

FATHER RECEIVES NEWS OF THE DEATH OF SON
(From Friday's Daily)
James R. Malone received the shocking news last night that his son, Captain
Harry Malone, of the United States army, lay dead at El Paso, Tex., where he
had recently arrived from Honolulu. Details of the sickness that caused the
untimely end of a brilliant officer are lacking. ......
The deceased is survived by the following brothers and sisters: *Mrs.
Charles Bartholomew, residing just south of this city (this is
Catherine/Kitty); Mrs. Della Spencer, of East Main street (don't know who
this is - perhaps a child I do not have a record of - not Anna Bell, she
died aged 18 months) ; Mrs. Martin Edinger (Bessie), Richard Malone and
Chester Malone (??? - is this Charley???), all of Chicago, and Wilson
Malone, whose whereabouts is unknown at present.*
*Newspaper:* *The Porter County Vidette*
*Date of Publication:* January 26, 1916
I am trying to determine if Charley and Chester are the same person???
PS - Thanks Stephen Shook for such a FABULOUS website about Porter County,
Indiana...
