I have to add "my two cents" here..I started researching my family many eons
ago...I started searching in Porter county in the 1960's.. cuz that is where
my FLEMING family went in 1826. My 3rd great grandfahter was John FLEMING
born 1775 in VA.
Any way I started out in the 1960's by writing to the library in Porter
county. I rec'd so much wonderful information from Phyllis Mefford, she was
head of the genealogy department at that time. In 1985 Phyllis retired and
Barbara Prescott took over...when Barbara was on vacation Nancy A Howell,
genealogy clerk took over..and each of them went that extra mile to help me.
I can't say enough good things about them..

Hi Everyone,
A good place to start your genealogy search in Porter County, is the Porter
County Public Library. It is one of the three best library sites in
Indiana--and it's right in our own back door, if you live in NW Indiana.
Larry Clark is head of the genealogy department.
Good Hunting,
Ken Curtis
