MRS. AUGUSTA LIDKE
Mrs. Augusta Lidke, 83, of Furnessville, died at 4 oclock Wednesday afternoon
at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Carl R. Gehweiler,
215 Pearl street, this city of infirmities incident to old age. She had
been ailing since last Christmas and had been at the Gehweiler home during
the last seven weeks.
She was a native of Posen, Germany, and was born on May 31, 1851. Her marriage
to John Lidke took place in 1871 in Germany. They came to the United States
on May 6, 1872, settling in Furnessville which was their home during the
remainder of their lives. Mr. Lidke died on April 5, 1899.
Mrs. Lidke was for many years a member of St. Pauls Evangelical Lutheran
church of Porter. Following the death of her husband, Mrs. Lidke and her
son, Ernest, lived together in Furnessville. She was a fine character and
was held in high regard by a host of friends of the community in which
she had spent more than three score years of her life.
Surviving her are seven children, William Lidke, of Chesterton; Albert
and Otto Lidke, and Mrs. Carl R. Gehweiler, of Michigan City; Ernest, of
Furnessville; Edward, of Niles Mich.; and Mrs. Henry Grieger, of Furnessville;
23 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon, at 1 oclock in the Flynn
funeral home at Chesterton and at 2 oclock in St. Pauls Evangelical Lutheran
church in Porter, Rev. J.A. Bescherer officiating. Burial will be in the
Furnessville cemetery.

St. Johns Church of Michigan City, the familys name is spelled Lüthke.)
