MRS. LAURA WITTE
CHESTERTON, Ind., June 9, 1934
Mrs. Laura Witte, who attended a family reunion in Waterford last Sunday,
died at her home here. She had been ill only three days, having contracted
a cold which led to intestinal trouble.
A brother-in-law, William Witte, lives in Michigan City.
Mrs. Witte was born Feb. 20, 1874. She lived near Otis for a number of
years and had resided in Chesterton since 1920 where she was very prominent
in clubs and other activities. She was a member of the Rebeccas, Macabees,
and St. Johns Evangelical church. Her husband, Albert, died in 1911.
She is survived by three sons, Leonard, Harley and Silver of Chesterton
and one daughter, Mrs. Lucille Cheesbrough, who recently moved from Chesterton
to Watseka, Ill.
Funeral services will be held at 2 oclock Tuesday afternoon in St. Johns
Evangelical church with Rev. A.P. Hardt, of Lansing, Mich., officiating.
Burial will be in Chesterton cemetery.

as being from Michigan City. Mrs. Witte was born in Westville, IN, the
daughter of David Conrad Ritenour and Margaret Alice {Huddleston} Ritenour.

Mrs. Laura E. Witte died at her home in Chesterton Saturday morning at
8:35 oclock at the age of 60 years, 3 months and17 days, from organic
heart disease. She passed away just 4 years to the day and within 20 minutes
of the hour as did her son, Alvin, who died on June 9, 1930.
Laura Witte was born in Westville, February 20, 1874. She was the daughter
of David and Margaret Ritenour. In October 1891 she was married in Otis
to Albert Witte. The family lived in Chicago; Otis; Trinidad, Colorado;
Lynn, New Mexico; Camden, Missouri; Silver Lake, Kansas; and Chesterton.
Seven children 3 sons passed away - Roy at 14 months, Alvin at 20 years
(June 9, 1920) and 1 son at birth. Others are Lucille, Leonard, Silver
and Harley.
There are also 5 grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mrs. Anna Rose Johnson, Avon
Park, Florida, and Mrs. Lucy Frame, Michigan City, Ind.; and 5 brothers,
Samuel of Michigan City, Benjamin of South Bend, Ind., and Marshall Nay,
William and Amos B., all of Burdick., Ind.
Mrs. Witte was a member of St. Johns Church, St. Johns Ladies Aid, the
WBA and the Rebecca Lodge. She received the degree of chivalry in the Rebeccas
and had taken an active part in the order.
She had been in ill health for the last few years, but her death was a
shock to her family and friends as she had attended the Witte family reunion
at Waterford a week ago Sunday. She will be greatly missed by all.
Services were held from St. Johns Tuesday afternoon, Rev. A.P. Hardt of
Lansing, Michigan, a form pastor, officiating. John Nordstrom sang Beautiful
Isle of Somewhere and Face to Face.
Pallbearers were Eric Settlemire, James O. Frame, Lyman B. Shaner, Jerry
Marquardt, Irvin Garrison and Charles Samuelson. Interment was in Chesterton
Cemetery.
