Gentle Friends --
As someone who is into genealogy (why else would I be on this list) and as
someone who has been a Public Servant for several decades in another Hoosier
County -- not Porter -- may I venture an a possible reason?
I will also say that no part of my duties involves Vital Records.
Porter County is suffering major financial problems. The County Council and
the County Commissioners decree cuts and impose procedures that the Public
Servants must follow and obey, they can decide between their job and their
desire to help you. Believe me, if they denied a specific request it was
with churning stomach and teary eyes. They, as many Custodians of Vital
Records these days have no choice. They must obey the Elected Officials.
Remember, please, that the Custodians of these Records that we lust after
have other duties. And providing genealogical services is rarely part of
their official duties. So let's be considerate of them, and appreciate AND
THANK them when they give us some of their time.
Best wishes. Happy Hunting
