FWIW...
Martin Young attested to the true identity and character of one Zenas Weaver
in 1894 and 1895 for Attorney Niles Highwood on his application for Civil
War Pension.
Along with him was the attesting of Peter B. Cooley. A William Cooley
appeared in the household of Zenas Weaver in 1860, in Liberty Township,
Porter, County, IN.
We are looking for the true parents of Zenas Weaver (Great Grandfather),
wondering if he moved from Ohio with Peter or Wlliam Cooley and Martin
Young, as a single man, prior to 1860.
I have no other info on the Youngs, excepting that my dad's first cousin
married a Donald Young, brother to 'Chic', in the 1940-50 era. There was a
Young's Bakery in Chesterton for many years.
Should any of this sound interesting, I may be able to scare up some more
stuff from the Chesterton Tribune, etc.
Let me know if you know much about Martin Young, also, if he is in your
family.
Lois

Looking to share information about two brothers, Ira & George YOUNG.
Ira YOUNG (b: 1808, NY) married Sophia CRIPPEN (b: 1811, NY) in 1827,
Ohio. They
had 11 children all told. From 1829 to 1844, 6 of them where
born in Ohio. I'm not sure where in Ohio they lived; there is conflicting
information and none of it is confirmed: Erie Co, OH, most likely and,
perhaps also, Washington Co, OH. These six children were Susan M. (who
married Josephus WOLF), Eva Ann (who married August JOHANN), John, Martin V
B (who married Mary LANSING), Charles E (who married Laura SESLAR), and
Wealthy M (who married Robert LANSING). Son George was born in 1847
Illinois.
The last four of Ira YOUNG's children where born in Porter Co, Indiana
from
1849 to ca 1855): Henry J, Mary, Martha (who married 1st cousin Edward
Ray YOUNG), and Minerva who died in infancy. The Ira YOUNG family moved
from Erie Co, OH, to Porter Co, IN in 1848 and lived in Porter Co, IN for
several decades, as well as most all his children.
Ira's brother George YOUNG (b: 1818, NY? OH?) married Marie L BALL (b:
1820,
Freedom, NY) in 1840, Erie Co, OH. They had 9 children, of which 4
died in infancy. Two of their children were born in Ohio from 1841 to 1843:
Celia S. (who married Clark WOOD & later Charles HOLBROOK) and Gilbert W
(who married Martha BROCKWAY).
One child of George and Maria YOUNG, Nelson M was born in 1848 Porter Co,
IN. And,
two children were born in Kane Co, IL: Edward Ray (who married
his 1st cousin Martha YOUNG) and Frankie (female) (who married Clarence
HALEY). The George YOUNG family moved from Erie Co, OH, to Porter Co, IN,
at approximately the same time as his brother Ira YOUNG in 1848. He bought
land there. But the family moved again in ca 1952 to Kane Co, IL. George
died in the CIvil War and his widow remarried Samual WOOD.
Do you have information to share?
Annette
