Hi Gail,
Here's some random information for you. I'm sure there's more lurking around
but the following were the "easy" things to find. :-)
Happy hunting!
Jan
Buried in Carter Cemetery (Jackson Township)
CASSLER, David - b. 8-11-1845 d. 1-14-1907 (brother??)
CASSLER, Violette wife - b. 10-12-1859 d. 1-08-1892
No CASSLER's (or variations in Chesterton Cem. or in Eight Square Cem. in nearby Pine
Township.)
The following census years are all in Jackson Township, Porter County, Indiana)
1870 Census:
Mary E. BREWER, 17, born in New York, living with the Freeman SMITH's in Household
157, as a domestic servant; and on the next line, no last name, so "assume" also
a BREWER....?
Lyman BREWER ?, 15, born in New York, in the same household.
There are two other BREWER families nearby in Households 151 and 154.
There's nothing for 1870 CASSLER that looks to be close, but my records are still very
"rough" for this census.
1880 Census:
Household 89 - Your CASLERs.
1896 Burdick Quilt:
Mr. C. CASSLER
Mrs. C. CASSLER
1900 Census: Household 136
CASSLER, David 54, Widower, born Aug. 1845 Ohio, father b. in Pennsylvania; mother b. in
Ohio
CASSLER, Jennie, 15, dau., born Indiana
CASSLER, Shirley, 13, son, born Indiana
CASSLER, Earnest, 10, son, born Indiana
CASSLER, Clarence, 8, son, born Indiana
I don't have the 1910 and 1920 censuses written up as yet. The 1930 census shows
nothing.
In the 1895 Plat Book, Calvin S. CASSLER owned 80 acres just south of Burdick. (They
lived on what is now 475 East, just south of Burdick. That house is gone.)
I don't show any other CASSLER property ownership for 1876, 1906 or 1921.
