Dear Gail,
Calvin CASSLER is buried in Spencer Cemetery, which is located 1.5 miles west of Kouts on
Baum Bridge Road (north of Highway 8).
CASSLER, Calvin S.
b. September 5, 1847
d. February 20, 1899
Immediately to the left of Calvin's tombstone are two large cement slabs placed into
the ground followed by two TILTON tombstones (William and Mary). Immediately to the right
of Calvin's tombstone are four BOWMAN tombstones (Thornton, Henrietta, John M., and
Infant Daughter). Calvin is the only CASSLER buried in Spencer Cemetery.

============================================
The following newspaper item concerning Calvin's death appeared in the February 25,
1899, issue of The Chesterton Tribune from Chesterton, Porter County, Indiana [Volume 15,
Number 46, Page 1, Column 3]:
Calvin Cassler, a former resident of Burdick, who moved to Kouts about three years ago,
died at his home at the latter place Monday. The cause of his death was brain fever. The
funeral was held from the house and the burial took place in the Jackson Center cemetery.
He leaves a wife, four sons and a daughter to mourn his loss.
===========================================
The newspaper apparently incorrectly stated the place of Calvin's burial. I've
read other death notices and obituaries from the county papers and it wasn't too
uncommon for the incorrect cemetery to be listed. The newspaper's date of death does
agree with the tombstone information, as February 20, 1899, was a Monday.
I hope this information helps you out. Take care.
