MEAGHER, JAMES L., JR., 82, of Louisville, passed away Saturday at Baptist Hospital East
after a brief illness. He was a native of Valparaiso, IN, retired chairman of S&T
Industries, a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
He was a member of the Rotary Club of Louisville, where he served as president from
1982-1983, and Bellarmine College President's Society, where he also served as
chairman of the board of trustees from 1975-1977. He was president of the National
Wholesale Hardware Association from 1979-1981 and served as vice president of the
University of Notre Dame Alumni Board from 1988- 1989. He was the founding member of River
Road Country Club and former chair of the Metro United Way Retirees Campaign. Along with
his professional accomplishments, he was a retired sports agent, an amateur golfer,
campaign treasurer and lawn care professional. But most importantly, he was a father,
grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived b!
y his wife of 59 years, the former Floy Terstegge; his 11 children, Mary-Glen Bradbury,
Anne Northup (Woody), Virginia Meagher (Chet Sygiel), Alice Lord (Jack), Jim Meagher
(Laura), Jane Meagher (Scott Hemphill), Katherine Hepler (Gerard), Patty Clare (Jon),
Maureen Orsini (Tony), Mary T. Plant (Michael) and Peggy Saylor (Howard); sister, Margaret
Phillips; 31 grandchildren; and one great-grand-daughter. His funeral Mass will be
celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 501 Cherrywood Rd., with
burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Monday at Ratterman's,
3711 Lexington Road. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in memory of
Mr. Meagher be made to Little Sisters of the Poor, Bellarmine University or the Rotary
Club of Louisville.
