There are libraries and then there are libraries that are like 'home'. I have
been doing research for 32 years, both personally and professionally in libraries all over
this country. No where will you find the level of expertise and caring and helpfulness
that you encounter when you go to the library in Valparaiso, IN. Larry Clark and his
staff, Chris, Janet, Pat and Carol ALWAYS go the extra mile for patrons....ALWAYS! They
are extremely competent and always have a smile. I have been there many times when a
patron was being very vexing and these professionals carry on with the highest standards I
have ever seen. These standards and the highest degree of help is uppermost at all times,
despite the setbacks of budget cuts, staff shortages and personal problems. Patrons need
to be prepared prior to library research. The staff is not there to do it for you but to
help you access the collection and answer questions and give a helping hand. If you are
having difficulty i!
n reading some handwriting on microfilm, for example....THIS staff is right there to take
a look and help you. Or maybe you don't know where to look for further information on
a family....ask THIS staff and one of them will be heading into the stacks to look for a
book before you can turn around! I've researched in the largest and smallest of
genealogical collections in North America and believe me when I say that you just
don't find any better genealogical professionals than Larry, Chris, Janet, Pat and
Carol. For those of us that live closeby, we are truly fortunate that our passion for
finding ancestors can be nourished by this library and the people who bring it alive for
all of us.
