Hobart Township Institute
The teachers of Hobart township met at Hobart High School building
Saturday, April 3, 1886.
Minutes of precious meeting read and approved.
Teachers present, Messrs. Bassett, Kern, Shuman C Gadsby, Spencer and
Misses Gadsby, Sholl, Spencer, Sullivan and Lambert.
The work was begun by Clara Lambert on the topic Indiana in the war of
1812.
The next was "The effect of tobacco on the system," by Geo. Gadsby. The
same subject was continued by Chas. Spencer and others.
Afternoon session was opened by M. L. Bassett giving an object lesson,
which was followed by blackboard work in "square root," by some of his
pupils, illustrating his methods.
An essay on Morals and Manners was next given by Gadsby. Leo Sherman
then gave his plan of teaching history to 4th grade pupils.
Miss Lizzie Egloff, gave some of the methods of teaching language to
primary pupils, that are used in Iowa.

Obituary
Died on April 1st, Mrs. Christine Pearson, of lung fever, aged 53 years
and one month. The funeral was held on the 24 inst.
Died - On April 2d, the infant child of Chas. Jacobson, of Liberty
township, of whopping cough. Funeral was held on the 4th.
Died - On April 6th, Mr Kossakowski, at his home in City West, at the
age of 85 years. The funeral was held on the 7th, from the Catholic
church. He died of old age.
