Lillian,
Here's the information that I uncovered per your search request. I think
it would probably be helpful for you to repost the information on the
Porter County Rootsweb mailing list just in case others are looking for
your family, too. But I leave that up to you....

Chesterton Chips.
After four months of patient suffering, Mrs. Anna S. Lindell, beloved
wife of ex-County Commissioner Peter J. Lindell, is dead. The end came
Tuesday fornoon at 11:15 o'clock. Last April Mrs. Lindell was taken ill,
and after being treated by Valparaiso physicians until June, was taken
to Augustana Hospital to have an operation performed for the removal of
gall stones. She seemed to stand this operation well, and for a time
gave her physicians reason to believe that her recovery was not far off.
Suddenly she was taken with a relapse, and from that time on, she slowly
and surely weakened until death relieved her of her pain. She died at
the hospital in Chicago, surrounded by members of her family. Her
husband was with her about ten days, and from the time he came, she
clung to him, and would not permit him to leave her bedside. The remains
were brought to Chesterton Wednesday, and taken to the family residence
in Jackson township. The funeral will be held Friday, the services to be
held in the Swedish Lutheran church of Chesterton. The funeral train
will leave the family home at 12 o'clock, arriving at the church at
1:30.
Anna S. Lindell was born in Smoland, Sweden, Nov. 12, 1846. She came to
America in 1869. Mrs. Lindell, then Anna Peterson, was married to Samuel
Bowman in 1865, and to this union were born five children, respectively:
Peter John, Carl August, Gustaf Lawrence, William and Samuel Edward. Mr.
Bowman died in 1878, and on the 15th of January, 1881, Mrs. Bowman was
married to Peter J. Lindell, who had three children by a previous
marriage, viz. Emily Marie, John Bengtand and Charles Edward. By her
second marriage Mrs. Lindell had five children: William Sexton, Selma
Albertina, Luther Oscar, Anna and Huldah Esther. A remarkable fact is
that of all the children born to this couple, not one has died, and all
remain to mourn her loss. Mrs. Lindell was a noble woman. She carried
her heavy load of motherhood through life, strengthened by true
Christian fortitude, and made herself the light of the household. To
this family she was indispensable, and now that she has been called to
her reward, few are missed as she is. The grief-stricken husband and
children have the sincere sympathy of a host of friends in this their
hour of sorrow, and their comfort is that the suffering wife and mother
is free from pain, awaiting them on the other shore.

PETER J. LINDELL DIES SUDDENLY ON SUNDAY
Coming without warning, the death of Peter J. Lindell of Chesterton at
10:19 Sunday evening in Christian hospital, Valparaiso, was a distinct
shock to his family and many friends throughout Porter County.
Mr. Lindell submitted to a major operation at South Shore hospital,
Chicago, last December. He recovered nicely and returned to his home in
Chesterton about February 1. Last week he caught a slight cold, while
working around the house, and was taken to the Valparaiso hospital where
pneumonia developed Saturday.
Mr. Lindell was one of the best known men in Porter county, having been
the county commissioner and holding other positions of trust.
Born in Småland, Sweden, on March 3, 1846, Mr. Lindell borrowed the $60
necessary to pay his fare to America. His first job was as a farm hand
for Nelson Barnard in the Quaker settlement in Jackson township. He
worked here until he saved enough money to purchase a farm of his own
just east of Cole's school house, where he lived for many years.
In 1871 he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Nelson, and to this union
three children were born, John, who died eleven years ago; Mrs. Emma
Johnson of South Dakota, and Charles Lindell of Woodville, who survive.
Mrs. Lindell died in 1881.
He was married to Mrs. Anna S. Bowman in 1882. Five children were born
to this union, three of whom survive: William S. of Valparaiso, Oscar of
Chicago and Mrs. Esther Ostrom of Chicago. Selma and Luther died several
years ago and their mother preceded them in death.
Five stepsons also survive: Peter J. Bowman of Ohio, Charles Bowman of
Jackson township, Gus Bowman of South Bend, William Bowman of Ainsworth
and S. E. Bowman of Lake County. There are 34 grandchildren and 11
great-grandchildren.
Mr. Lindell was a charter member of the Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran
church of this city and was elected one of the first trustees. He is
believed to be the last of the charter members.
In 1892 Mr. Lindell was elected Porter county commissioner in a year
when few Republicans were successful.
The funeral was held this Wednesday afternoon from the Bethlehem
Evangelical Lutheran church. Rev. Karl E. Zetterholm of Gary officiated
and burial was in Chesterton cemetery.

Interestingly, from the Westchester Township Cemetery Index we find that
both of Peter J. Lindall's wives were named Anna S. and both were born
in 1846!

Note that there are several other Lindahl and Lindall folks buried in
the same row as Peter and the Anna's - looks to be the children listed
in the obituary above.
