Chesterton Tribune - September 1, 1886 cont
Kansas City imposes a fine of $6.50 upon a woman wearing a mother Hubbard
dress upon the streets.
Homer Tillotson of Liberty township, is being talked of as a candidate for
the legislature from Porter County. F Homer and Nels Barnard can be got to
stump the county together, we will hire a hall for the first speech and bear
all expenses.
The Hon. Johannes Kepelke, of Crown Point, and the Hon, Thomas J. Wood, of
the same point, are a little offish toward each other of late. In fact their
relations are somewhat strained. The trouble arose in the democratic
convention held at Crown Point on May 29th last. The Hon. Johannes referred
to the eminent ex-member of Congress as a fitting ornament for a lunatic
asylum, and the Hon. Thos. J. arose on his number 11's and announced that he
was no three-year old democrat anyway; that he was a shouting, shrieking
member of the party when Kopelke was a kid and moreover he didn't go into
the party after being kicked out of everything else. He dropped several
allusions about his late friend which got Mr. Kopelke's German up, "und py
der Gott and Himmel". Johannes swore "ich bin a congressional delegate und
I cote for dat tam Vood vunst, aber he boser look a leedle oud some more
afterwards." The fact is Mr. Wood's name is Dennis, now among the Dutch.
