SERVICES TUESDAY FOR HARLEY WITTE
Funeral services are Tuesday for Harley D. Witte, 77, who died Saturday
at 9:45 a.m. in Porter Memorial hospital.
Services are at 1 p.m. in the White Funeral home with the Rev. John Gregg
of St. Johns United church officiating and burial will follow in Chesterton
cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. today.
Living here most of his live, Mr. Witte was born December 24, 1895 in Otis,
the son of Albert and Laura (Ritenour) Witte, and in Chesterton on April
22, 1925, he and Bertha LaHayne were married.
Surviving besides his wife are two daughter, Mrs. Richard (Dorothy) Rinker
of Chesterton and Mrs. Sherman (Betty) Lance of Vicksburg, Mich., one sister,
Mrs. Edward (Lucille) Cheesbrough of Overland Park, Kan., seven grandchildren
and two great-grandchildren.
He is retired from U.S. Steel where he was a painter, and served in France
in the Signal Corps in World War I. He was a member of the Veterans of
Foreign Wars Post 2511, Porter, and the World War I Veterans of Valparaiso.
