COMMUNITY LEADER EVERETTE WITTE DEAD AT 71
Former Chesterton Town Board president Everette A. Witte, 71, suffered
a heart attack last evening at his 158 Chesterton Blvd. home. He was dead
on arrival at Porter Memorial Hospitals emergency room.
On the board for 12 years, the Democrats last term ended in 1975. He represented
Chesterton on the Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission for
eight years.
He retired in 1970 as a district manager for the Elgin-Honeyhill Corporation.
He belonged to the Westchester Chamber of Commerce, The Chesterton Lions
Club, Chesterton Moose Lodge 1623, and Bethlehem Lutheran Church. He was
member of Teamsters Local 142 for 47 years.
The son of Silver and Mabel (Scharringhausen) Witte, he was born July 13,
1913 in Trinidad, CO, coming to Chesterton in 1920. Also here, on Dec.
14, 1935, he married the former Beatrice Osterman, who survives.
Other survivors are son William (wife Karen) of Chesterton; daughter Beverly
(husband Richard) Greener of Fort Collins, CO; sisters Blanche (husband
Edgar) Skibbe of Chesterton and Dorothy (husband Cliff) Pratt of Valparaiso;
and four grandchildren.
Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Friday at Carl Edmonds Funeral Home
here, Rev. Richard Mattson officiating. Burial will be at Chesterton Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday. Moose Lodge
services will be there at 7:30 that night. Memorial contributions may be
made to the charity of the givers choice.
