The following is taken from the Chesterton Tribune, 7 April 1918.
I am not researching these names, with the exception of Greiger. They
were simply on a copy I made from the paper.

Mr. and Mrs. Joe Schultz, of Chicago, spent Sunday with Mrs. Jemima
Brody.
Mr. and Mrs. Wm. McManes entertained company from Hammond over Sunday.
Mrs. Vern House gave a card party the other day for a number of her lady
friends.
Hjalmer Olson and his uncle went to Canton, Miss., one day last week for
an indefinite stay.
B. F. Spencer, of Hobart, was the guest of his brother, E. C. Spencer and
family Friday.
Miss Estella Yokam, of Gallen, Mich., spent a few days of last week with
Mr. and Mrs. Draves.
The entire eighth grade and part of the seventh grade of Porter school
are purchasing Thrift Stamps.
The funeral of Mrs. A. Greiger, of Crocker, was held Monday at the German
Lutheran Church, Rev. J. Bescherer officiating.
Fernandis Babcock is laid up with a bad strain of the muscles of his left
side. He has been compelled to remain at home so far this week.
One of the youngest members of those who are doing their bit for
democracy is John Ronald Ross, son of Prof. and Mrs. C. G. Ross, who is
the owner of a Wer Certificate. (possibly this should be WAR certificate?

Mrs. Wm. Babcock spent Saturday in Gary, the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Fred
Cornell. As it was their first anniversary of their wedding, Mrs.
Babcock helped in making the day a pleasant one.
Master Ivan Johnson passed his eleventh birthday Monday, and in honor of
the occasion his mother entertained a number of Ivan's friends. All
enjoyed the party very much.
Miss Tillie Johnson, who has been in Chicago with her niece for the past
few weeks has returned to take care of Mrs. C. G. Green, as her daughter,
Mrs. E. Busse, has returned to her home in Chicago.
The P.M. train foing east about 2 a.m. was frozen up Monday and did not
get away until 1 p.m.
Miss Laura Gullstrom of Chesterton, came over last Friday afternoon and
aided the Red Cross ladies here in making bandages.
Chesterton Local, N. A. U. will give a dance in Chesterton Hall on
Lincoln's birthday, Feb. 12. Everybody is invited. TIckets 75 cents.
Prof. Carmon F. Ross, principal of Porter School, is surely doing his bit
for Uncle Sam. Tuesday he sold $16 worth of War Savings Stamps.
The Third and Fourth grade pupils of Miss Mary A. Bradt's room are
bringing in material to furnish an Historical corner. They are all
greatly interested and as this is the first of the kind it will be
something the children will always remember.
Miss Ruth Battelger, sister of G. F. Battelger, who is attending the
Conservatory of Music in Chicago, spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs.
Battelger.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Brockmiller entertained Mr. and Mrs. R. Huff, Miss
Evelyn and Mr. and Mrs. C. Huff to a dinner, Sunday.
There is a lot of difference between remoeing the covering from a
upholstered piece of furniture and replacing it and having an expert
upholsterer build the upholstering all over. We have an expert
upholsterer doing repairing for us this month. Call us and let us figure
