Mrs. Peter Hokanson was taken to the Michigan City hospital last
Wednesday. She has been ailing about a month.
Miss Bernice Marquardt, who was quite ill the past week is convalescing.
Lester Arndt and Harry Sexton are very ill with pneumonia.
Mr. August Sward visited Porter school Monday afternoon.
Trustee Charles Pearson, visited the Porter teachers Tuesday morning and
gave them a very interesting talk.
Mrs. Peter Hokanson was brought home from St. Anthony's hospital,
Michigan City, Tuesday after a week's stay. She is no better but wishes
to be with her family.
Mr. and Mrs. George Sheene, of Gary, were the guests of Mr. and Mrs.
Nels Miller and family, Sunday.
Little Katie Campbell, baby daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Campbell, has
been very ill.
George Moulten of the third grade room cut his lip very badly while
coasting down the front steps of the school house, on his sled, Tuesday,
after dismissal.
Mrs. Showers has bought out Mrs. Fike's interests in the restaurant and
the Fike family are living upstairs until they get a home to move into
up in Michigan, where Mr. Fike has a position.
Mrs. Floyd Campbell entertained her Sunday School class Tuesday evening.
All report a very delightful evening.
W. Zahrn spent Saturday and Sunday in Chicago.
Gerry Long was a Michigan City visitor Thursday.
When returning from the cemetery Monday afternoon, Mr. and Mrs. Frank
Coslet and son Wilbur, and Mr. Albert Peterson had a very narrow escape
from being seriously injured or killed. Mr. Peterson was diving C. E.
Jacobson's new car for the accommodation of some of the mourners. When
he came out of the cemetery and was descending the hill the car skidded,
turning down in the ravine, where it tipped over on its side. Mrs.
Coslet's hand and arm were cut and bruised and F. Coslet's leg was badly
bruised. The boy, Wilbur, and the driver, Albert Peterson were not
injured at all. The car has a badly bent fender and two windows and the
windshield broken.
Mr. and Mrs. Gerry Long visited Mrs. P. Hokanson at St. Anthony's
hospital, Michigan City, Sunday.
Mrs. George Booher was a Gary shopper Thursday. While in Gary, she
visited her sister, Mrs. Harry Bortz and friends Mrs. J. F. Conkin and
Miss Lillian Swallow.
Mr. and Mrs. Rhoda of Chicago, came Sunday to be here Monday, to attend
the funeral of Mr. C. Huhr, Mr. Rhoda is Mrs. Huhr's brother.
The W. C. T. U. held a meeting at Mrs. George Conrey's home Tuesday
afternoon.
Mr. Charles Huhr, an old resident of this place, passed to his Eternal
home last Friday morning after an illness of several months. The
funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the German Lutheran
church. Rev. H. A Bescherer officiated. He leaves a wife, two
daughters, one son, and sever grandchildren and many relatives and
friends to mourn his loss.
The office of the Westchester Township Trustee, is located on the second
floor of the Johnson building, Broadway and Second St., Chesterton,
Indiana.

Porter Bank Has Election Of Its Directors
Election of officers in the First State Bank of Porter occurred January
4. No change was made in the directorate. The directors are: E. A.
Wilson, H. L. Arnold, John E. Kemp, N. A. Samuelson, F. H. Brockmiller,
F. W. Sievert and J. A. Bescherer. C. W. Wright is cashier.
