Samuel Ellsworth Collins, 94, died at 4:30 a. m. today in his home at 156 Franklin. He
had been in ill health for several years.
Born in Center township, near Cooks Corners, on Jan. 8, 1867, he was the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Andrew Collins. On Dec 28, 1892, in Valparaiso, he married Ruth Ann Hughart, who
preceded him in death in 1957.
A carpenter by trade, Collins was a member of the Valparaiso City Council for four years
in the early 1920s. Collins was baptized into the fellowship of the First Baptist church
in Valparaiso in March of 1879.
Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Grace Wheeler, Mrs. Maude Barkley, Mrs. Lucile Thiesen,
and Mrs. Bertha Risto, all of Valparaiso, and Mrs. Mabel Gray, Crown Point; son, William,
of Denver, who at present is in Jordan with the U. S. Government Reclamation program;
eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p. m. Sunday in the Bartholomew Funeral home with the Rev.
Arnold Westphal officiating. Burial will be in Graceland cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p. m. Saturday.
