I know this was a needle in a hay stack to find. All I know is that my grandfather's first marriage ended up in divorce and they had a son. Dates are around 1930 -1934. I tried the Valparasio Library as one person has been kind enough to get me information on the SKINNER's. I was told that they have newspapers to do look ups in. But according to this guy they don't have that information. He infact says he was too busy with visitors to do anymore lookups. Didn't even refer me to anyone else. So I guess I am kinda out of luck with that library. Gosh and here I thought I send plenty of donations ontop of the copy fees. So my quest goes on for my mothers sake. She would like to know before she gets too old or before she dies.

You will need a good date to get information from a newspaper. Do you have an obit that would give his children's names? You could go from there to find info on a son. The Porter Co Clerk's office in Valparaiso might have info on a first marriage. You will need to give them a time frame. You might call or email the Genealogy Dept at Valparaiso Library asking for the name of a local researcher if they do not have time. Finding info without a date is time consuming.
At least I am not the only one in search for a William SKINNER information. I
was having help from the Valparasio Library on getting some family
information. However I was informed by this person that it has been to busy
with visitors and didn't have the time to do searches. HMMM I thought I gave
enough donations with each search. Seems like he would pass on the requests
to someone else.
Although I was told they have old newspapers by someone on the Internet who
lives in Valparasio and thought maybe an article might be listed of this
marriage. Considering that back in the 1930s the SKINNER family in
Valaparasio,Porter Co. IN was considered quite well know and well to do. So
it seems only fitting that something would have been written in a newspaper
back then. But was informed also by this library genealogy person that they
don't have any newspapers there. Now what, since that year was an off season
for records?
I would like to really find out who my grandfather first marriage was to and
if he had a son. If so what is the birth of his son and the name. I think the
lady he married was Jane BILBOU. Funny, my grandmother thought it was Jane
BIMBO, she probably called her a Bimbo. I was informed by a some sort of
cousin I found who I don't even know that her name was BILBOU. But that is
all she remembered. My grandfather was William Harry SKINNER born in
Valparasio Indiana on June 27 1909. He divorced and later married my
grandmother Frances Louise SMITH in 1935. and had 1 daughter, my mother. She
is an only child and would love just to know if the story is true that she
has a half brother sometime before she one day passes on to a better place.
God Bless

Fellow listers,
I am searching for the burial place of my gggg-grandfather and have reason to
believe he may be in the Carter Cemetery in Jackson Twp, Porter County,
Indiana. His name is James Cape and he died on or about 21 March 1863, aged
34 years, 7 months, and 6 days. His 7 year old daughter was buried in the
Carter Cemetery in 1867, and the family lived in Jackson Twp from 1857 to
1878, although their mailing address was Westville, Indiana.
Is there anyone who lives near Carter Cemetery who would be willing to check
out the burial records for James Cape? There may not be a marker on his
grave. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Linda!
I will do further checking tomorrow. There are CAPEs in the Carter
Cemetery.
If the stone is there, I can take a digital pic and email it to you.
Happy hunting!

My aunt by marriage, Lucille Boles, was born in Valparaiso, Porter County,
in May 1903. Her parents were John Simeon Boles and Ellen Brunson (Miller)
Boles. I believe they probably moved to Valparaiso from Chicago shortly
before Lucille's birth, inasmuch as her older sister, Margaret, was born in
Chicago. In the mid-l920's, both Lucille and Margaret were in St. Joseph
County, where both were married, and lived there for the remainder of their
lives. Sometime in the 1930's, their mother, Ellen Boles, moved to St.
Joseph County, where she lived with the sisters. This probably would
suggest that her husband had died, perhaps in Porter County.
If anyone has any data, or suggestions on how to locate information about
John and Ellen, I'd appreciate hearing about it. I was going to post a
query on the Porter County Genweb site, but couldn't get a connect to that
portion of the site.
Thanks for any help.

Where is a good place in the each state, like Indiana, Michigan, Kentucky
that I can over the Internet get information from old newspapers for
marriages, divorces and births and obits?
Plus the years would range from 1868, 1875, 1893, 1923, 1930. Did they have
newspaper information during those dates?
God Bless

I am looking for information on marriages for James S. McCOLLUM / McCALLUM
died 31 Dec 1918 who married a Daisy Mae BROWN. I first believed it was in
Michigan but maybe they married in Indiana. After James died she married a
Nathan Oliver SMITH. After Nathan died she married a Grant McGLAUGHLIN.
Would like anyone that can help in finding the marriage for Daisy with these
3 men I would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I am looking for marriages for the two following:
Amanda Melvina SKINNER born abt 1855 in PA
Abigail Moridulce SKINNER born abt 1860 in PA
They were living in Porter Co. in 1870 with their parents who moved on to MN
but may have married in Porter Co.
They were both dead by 1900 and I cannot find this family on the 1880 census
to see if they had died before then. If someone could check for listings in
the cemeteries in the Valparaiso area I would immensely appreciate it.

For those new to the roots web and those of you veterans I would like to say
that there are many folks who subscribe that are willing to do what they
can to help others in their research.
I, myself do Volunteer research at Andersonville Civil War Prison in
Andersonville Georgia. There are Any research I do is absolutely at NO cost
and I am willing to do what I can. There are 1743 prisoners of war on record
from the state of Indiana and about 700 who died here, I thought I would
send my offer. I also do the research for any prisoners from any state that
were here.
Here are my sources of research.
There are 2 online databases to do lookups.....One by name...one by Company
and Regiment. I also have a copy of the Dorence Atwater Death list
which has the names and grave numbers of 12960 graves with only 460 marked
as " UNKNOWN " This along with a CD I have which contains 34,000 names of
the 45,000 who
were imprisoned there which helps me find prisoner records because of
mispellings of the names or alternate names. I visit the prison site every
couple of weeks and have access to the onsite databases as well as the
physical files. Please do not concider this spam as my research offer is
FREE for the asking and will be posted on this county site only once. Please
email me directly for lookup request at Frye(a)gnat.net
I also take grave photos for a small fee that covers my cost.
If there is anything I can do in helping your research at Andersonville,
please just ask.

Here is another attempt to find the impossible. Looking for a marriage
record, census, or divorce record of a William Harry Skinner who's 1st
marriage was to a Jane ? Last name unknown, BUT was said it may be BILOU or
BIMBO. Marriage was somewhere in Indiana> a good possibility is Valparasio
Porter County or surrounding areas. Date would be somewhere in-between 1930 -
1935 or minus a few. They had a son>again name unknown. Another possibility
is that the son was born out of wedlock. Now that one would be hard to trace.
Is there place on the Internet for Michigan where you can place in mothers
name or fathers name and it will give you a date of birth for children born
to that person? I know Kentucky does. Do not need information on 2nd
marriage to Frances.
God Bless
Pam
