If anyone can give me some help on finding a birth of a son from my
grandfather William Harry SKINNER in I believe is Valapariso, Porter Indiana
I would greatly appreciate it. I know I am going to have to get either the
birth certificate or my grandfathers marriage bond from the health department
or court house because it is around 1930's since there is hardly any info.
for that time. I think he was married to a Jane BILOU. Although it was said
it was BIMBO. I cannot find anything on the internet to give me any kind of
information or dates so I can give a date to the person at the right
departments to look it up. It would have been his first marriage. My
grandfather was born in Valapariso, but I guess it's possible he could have
gotten married some other county or town. According to family history, she
was already pregnant when they had gotten married. They had one son.
He married to my grandmother sometime before 1937 because my Mom said they
were married a couple of years before they had her, which was in 1937. Is
anyone up for this challenge?
God Bless
Pam

Hi again, Roger....
Have been continuing my search for the ancestry of our Edward Irwin Stoner. Since we both already know that Edward's father was Joshua Stoner (m. Augusta Knapp in Valparaiso, Indiana on 3/20/1867), I continued to look for Joshua in Porter County, Indiana. On the 1850 US Census for Centre Township, Porter County, Indiana, I found a Joshua Stoner (age 4) living with his father: Samuel and mother: Rachel. Also living in the home is a sister: Elizabeth (age 6). Samuel is listed as being born in Ohio, and Rachel in Indiana. Living on nearby farms in the same county are other Stoner's: Henry, Daniel, Abraham and Jacob. Also living with Jacob is Sarah Stoner (age 65). All these Stoner's list their birth place as Ohio, with the exception of Sarah (evidently the widowed mother) who lists her birth place as Kentucky. I can follow Sarah Stoner back on the 1840 Porter County census and then pick her up in 1830 in Clermont County, Ohio. She is living alone with her children.!
Also listed in Clermont, Ohio - prior to 1830 is Abraham Stoner who I can pick up on Tax Lists.
I intent to send for marriage certificates and other documentation. I will also continue to follow the information I have on Sarah Stoner and Abraham Stoner. So far, I think that these two are the parents of Abraham, Daniel, Jacob, Henry and Samuel - all listed on the 1850 Centre Township, Porter County, Indiana Census Records.
I'll keep you informed on anything I find.

Lillian,
The name of the church you asked about by I-94 is St. Mary's Catholic Church in the little town of Otis. The cemetery is right behind the church.
Hope this helps,
Olga

Hello Roger....Are you Lorraine's son? I am Kathi Cook, married to David Cook whose mother was Sylvia Mae Stoner, daughter of Edward Stoner and Mary Josephine Billeter. I have a few generations back on the Billeter's, but have just started on the Stoner side. Just found out today that Edward's father was Joshua Stoner. Edward's mother was Augusta Knapp. I found record of their marriage as follows:
Valparaiso, Porter County, Indiana
Marriage Records, Volume 3
STONER, Joshua and KNAPP, Augusta
March 20, 1867
I also know that Edward Irwin Stoner was born in Valparaiso, Porter County, Indiana on 8/10/1870. This info was given to me by his grand daughter, Dorothy Stoner Franklin. I have the names and birth dates of all the children born to Edward and Mary Josephine and can supply them to you if you don't already have them.

My name is Matt Vincent and I'm married to Kelly Ingram of Portage. I'm getting into our genealogy and I'm wondering if anyone out there has any information on these Porter County familes. Kelly's great-grandparents were Oliver and Lydia Ingram of Hobart. Her paternal grandmother was Dorothy Flick prior to marrying Edward Ingram. Her maternal grandmother was Violet (Honey) Graham and her maternal grandfather was Newman Oliver. Please contact me at rb6banjo(a)cafereality.com if you think that you have anything that would help me. Thank you so very much.
