This office has just received word from Mexico announcing the arrival of
a new baby girl on Dec. 28th, to Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Young, of

the other two children being boys, so that the parents are especially
delighted.
Joe Stephens is after Ben Little. Sunday there was a scene in which the
marshal and Little's bartender clashed, and on Wednesday six cases were
in Fetterer's justice shop against Little by Deputy Prosecutor Parks. He
is charged with selling liquour to minors and keeping his place open on
Sunday.
The announcement is made that Prof. August Gondring has sold his
interest in the Chicago Business College, of Chicago, to his partner,
Mr. Verden, and is now arranging to move to California in the near
future. His health demanded a change. Prof. Gondring was raised in
Westchester, and has been at the head of one of Chicago's leading
institutions of learning for more than twenty years. He has amassed a
comfortable fortune, and proposes to now enjoy it in the sunny clime of
Southern California.
According to law trustees should publish their report within ten days
from the end of the year. The reports should be published in two
newspapers in the county. The law says they should be itemized, but
some trustees construe the law to mean the report shall be summarized.
This does not satisfy the taxpayers, who want to know the particulars.
In view of the reports on the streets, it would be the plan of wisdom if
some of the trustees published their reports in full, to set aside the
suspicion of irregularity or extravagance.
The Tribune presents to its readers Sheriff L. M. Green, who on New
Year's day succeeded C. F. LaCount. His is the only new face in the
court house, unless we include Commissioner Bates, who really ought not
to be classed as a court house occupant, as his office does not require
constant attendance, as does the four officials, clerk, sheriff,
recorder, and auditor. Sheriff Green enters upon his new duties with a
vim that indicates there will be no cobwebs in the office, and has the
best wishes of this office.

The Chicago Flint & Lime Glass Co. have decided to increase its capital
stock materially, and put in considerable machinery that the growth of
the business necessitates. Col Bockius and his son James, are heavy
stockholders, and are increasing their holdings in the company. Mr.
James Bockius has come here from Marion, Ind., to look after the
interests of his father and himself, and superintend the installation of
the new machinery and will remain indefinitely.
J. F. Thompson has returned from Manchester, Tenn., where he has been
for the past four months in the interest of the Chesterton Lumber &
Cooperage Co. A. E. Boice, of Manchester, takes Mr. Thompson's place as
superintendent. Mr. Thompson has sold out all his interest in the
company to Mr. Boice, for the reason that the climate did not agree with
him, as he was sick most of the time he was away from her. He has not
decided what he will engage in now, but will rest up for a while.
Mrs. Mary Sophia Gelow, wife of John Gelow, is dead. Suddenly, and
without warning, she passed away Tuesday midnight. Tuesday she retired
apparently in excellent health and spirits. At about midnight her
husband was awakened by hearing her dying gasps, and before any
assistance could be summoned she was dead. Death was caused by a
paralytic stroke affecting the heart. The funeral will be held Saturday
at 1 p.m. from the German Lutheran Church. Deceased was 61 years old
and leaves a husband and four grown children to mourn her loss.
>From Furnessville comes the report that politics are warming up in great
shape despite the wintry weather, and are almost eclipsing a national
campaign in point of interest. It is up to the voters to select a
supervisor for each road district on Saturday, January 14, and the
various candidates are hustling around in great shape getting their
fences up and corralling the voters. In the first precinct Straw Boss
Forbes, of the Michigan Central section gang, seems to have a cinch on
the election and is only waiting for the votes to be counted. But
Doctor Colgrove promises to be on hand and is confident of having votes
to spare. Several dark horses are also doing a little quiet training
and may shy into the ring at any time. Bets are about even on the Dr.
and the Boss, but Tom is a pretty lively sprinter, as everybody knows
and is willing to put up bids on his success.

I thought I would share this information with you even though I have been unable to find a Lavinia or a William. Nelson Vosburgh, my 3G grandfather was born in Herkimer County, New York in the Mohawk Valley, May 4, 1815. His father, Bartholomew was from Holland. Nelson and his wife had 12 children but I only know the names of 2 of the children, Grover and Ella. Nelson settled in St. Joesph County (South Bend area) in the early 1850's. I don't know if I can tie your relatives in with this bunch of Vosburgh's but I will see what I can find out. I have a lot of information on this Vosburgh family if you are interested. Does anyone have a list of cemeteries for Porter county with their headstones? I'm looking for William and Mary Bonham's headstones but am not sure where they are buried.Probably either Kouts, In. or Portage, In. William was born about 1848 and Mary was born about 1854. I found the list of cemeteries but couldn't pull up a list of it's inhabitants. Is there such a list? William's father, Peter, is probably buried in the same cemetery, so I'd really like to find out where they all are.

I am looking for any bits and pieces about these families.
John/Johann and Henry/Heinrick Bartels and Carl/Charles and Marie/Mary Zarndt started in Valparaiso after the Civil War. Family lore says Carl Zarndt was a mason who worked on the County Court House. John married Elise Zarndt; Heinrick married Ella Sass. Some of the Bartels family moved to Chesterton. John and Elise's son was my grandfather (Vernon) and ran the hardware store there; he married Eleanor Krolikowski during WWI.
Thanks!
