I've "rescued" an old photograph of James William BYERS (1870-1921), his
son
Austin Norviel BYERS (1896-1953), and his wife Virginia Elizabeth GLADISH
BYERS (1871-1950). The photograph appears to have been taken in the late
1890's or early 1900's. Austin appears to be about 4 years old at the time
and his parents in their 20's or 30's. Based on limited research I was able
to locate the following information regarding the family:
James William BYERS was b. 13 Apr 1870 in Orange Co., IN to parents John
William BYERS (1834-1918) and Hester J. THOMPSON (1846-1893 - dau of John
David THOMPSON and Mary BARNHILL). James was one of 12 children born to
this couple including, Earnest L.; Mary Jane; James William; John Thomas;
Eliza Eleanor; Minnie T.; Charles Elmer; George Bert Allamander; Laura
Emaline; Grover C.; Elvin Boone; and Thurman Earl BYERS, all born between
1865 and 1888. James married Virginia Elizabeth GLADISH or GLADDISH
(1871-1950). James died 14 Feb 1921 in Claremont, IL and is buried in the
White River Chapel Cemetery in Bowman, IN. Virginia was b. Sept 1871 in
Pike Co., IN to parents Elijah O. GLADISH (1849-1942) and Suzannah or
Susannah "Susan" BURKHART (1852-1911).
Virginia was one of three children born to this couple including Virginia
Elizabeth; Lydia Margaret; and Roxie Ethel GLADISH, all born between 1871
and 1886. Virginia died 4 May 1950 in Vincennes, IN and is buried along
with her husband in Bowman, IN. The couple had two children including Austin
and Roxie Irene BYERS (1905-1995). Austin Norveil BYERS was b. 26 Sept 1896
in Lawrence Co., IL and married Myrtle J. ATKINS (1896-1986 - dau of Adam
ATKINS and Daisy STOLTZ) on 29 Nov 1916 in Richland, IL and together they
had four children including, Lawrence Dale; Lowell Morris; Eva "Fern" BYERS
(1937-2013) and one additional child all born between 1920 and 1937.
Austin died 18 Mar 1953 in Illinois and is buried in the Antioch Cemetery in
Claremont, IL. Austin's son Lawrence Dale born 10 Oct 1920 in IN, died 27
May 1932 in Claremont, IL at the age of 11 years.
I am hoping to locate someone from this BYERS Family so that the photograph
can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member of this family,
or you know someone who might be, please contact me.
Thanks,
Shelley
