Seeking WILLIAMS from Pike County to participate in WILLIAMS DNA Study
focused on genealogical connections.
My Williams' direct line is from Joseph J Williams b. 1803 d. 3/1856.
Per the 1850 census, Joseph was born SC. (Later censuses, his children
state he was born SC or GA).
Joseph married Juliett CATT in 3/13/1851 and their son, Smith M
Williams is my Great-Great Grandfather. Smith Williams married Ora G
Tislow in 1878 and she died in childbirth of my Great-Grandfather, Ora
Ernest Williams 10/13/1878.
Juliett Catt is not Joseph's 1st wife, and there are several Pike County
marriages for Joseph Williams. (Unfortunately there are also several
more for that same name in Gibson County, IN in same timeframe. Along
with land entries!) Still, I believe 'my' Joseph Williams first married
Elizabeth Yates in 1825 Pike County, and from this union, Eliza Williams
was born 1826. (Eliza later married Alfred Davidson.) A second marriage
to RueyAnn Parker in 1833 (Pike) is believed to follow, and 2 children
of this marriage: Emily b.2/12/1835 and George b. 4/29/1836. Emily
married William CATT, but she died on 9/16/1856, and George died
4/16/1857.
In the 1840 census, the 2 girls and 1 boy lived with Joseph, but no
female of an age to be his wife, so suspect that RueyAnn had died by
1840. Living next door to Joseph in 1840 is Thomas WILLIAMS and his
wife Hannah LINDSEY WILLIAMS and their family. Hannah dies in 1841 and
Thomas in 1844.
In 1850, there are several additions to Joseph Williams' household, and
I believe these to be the sons of Thomas and Hannah. In 1850 census
enumeration, in addition to Joseph, Emily and George, there is Hiram
Williams age 11, John Williams age 20 and Charles Williams age 19. I
suspect that Thomas may have been Joseph's older brother but have no
validation of that.
Hiram Williams is mentioned in Joseph's will along with July (Juliett)
and George, but without any reference to relationship.
Joseph, Juliett, Thomas, Hannah, George, Smith and his wife, Ora, all
buried at Williams Cemetery, aka Bowman Cemetery, aka White River Chapel
Cemetery in Madison TWP, Pike County IN.
I have much more information on this family.
I am participating in the Williams DNA study through my cousin, Mike
Williams. That study now has over 700 participants with an active
discussion list associated with it, however no solid matches for my
direct line to-date. I am seeking additional WILLIAMS male participants
(we're following Y-DNA matches) from Pike County to join the study
(costs will be covered) to try to identify relationships with other
WILLIAMS from Pike County IN since I've been stuck at the point of
researching Joseph Williams for many many years.
Any WILLIAMS researchers out there interested in participating?
