For those of you who do not receive the Indiana Genealogist there was an
interesting article in the June 2004 issue concerning Civil War Veterans
who received artificial limbs.
The article 'Artificial Limbs Furnished To Indiana Soldiers' by Susan D.
Kaufman and Curt B. Witcher abstracted a list all of the soldiers who
either served from Indiana or lived in Indiana and were listed in the House
of Representatives executive document (39th Congress, 1st. Session, Ex.
Doc. No. 108).
According to the article the document is actually an 1866 letter from the
Secretary of War in answer to a resolution of the House of April 10,
relative to artificial limbs furnished to soldiers."
