Oh my...I've missed a lot this month. I have Ashby info, I just need to dig
it out, but do not believe the Johnson name was involved. So maybe this is
another family?
I will find the Ashby's I have and will probably add to the confusion!
Remona, who were you looking for with the Ashby's....a boy named Benjamin??

Remona,
I hate to add yet another name to the list, but I noticed there was a Samuel
H. Johnson that married a Mary McLanahan on 20 March 1845. If the first
child was born in 1846 that could be a possibility too.

Thanks Sandy,
I have the following:
1850 Pike Co. Census:
Margaret Ashby age 49,
Samuel Ashby age 28,
Mary Ashby 24,
William Johnson age 4,
Ephraim Johnson age 3.
Benjamin Johnson age 1
I think that this is the Margaret on this census.
William Ashby m: Margaret Peggy Johnson 2/15/1822 Pike
I think that Samuel Ashby and Mary Ashby are really Johnson's and maybe
the parents of William, Ephraim and Benjamin and were recorded as Ashby's
by mistake.
In my Johnson old papers, looks like from a Bible, there are the
following:
Samuel H. Johnson born 26 October 1821
Mary Johnson born 21 July 1825
William M. or W. Johnson born 26 January 1846
Benjamin F. was born the 27 May 1849
and
Daniel W. Grubb born 3 October 1866
Found Daniel W. Grubb on the:
1870 Pike Co.Logan Twp. Line 124:
Samuel Johnson 51 Blacksmith - 175 IN
Mary 46 K.H. IN
Grubb, Daniel 5 IN
Some of the Ashby's have Samuel and Mary as Ashbys as is recorded but if
they are her children then why did William Ashby leave his estate to
Samuel H. Johnson after his wife's death? Just thinking and trying to
find who Benjamin's parents are.
Appreciate all the help I can get.

Peggy Johnson married William Ashby 15 February 1822, and Peggy is a
nickname for Margaret. The three Johnson chilren living with Margaret
Ashby in 1850 could possibly belong to her sister, or even be
grandchildren. I would check along those lines. There are several Ashby
researchers out there that might be able to help you.
There is another William Ashby with a wife named Margaret in the 1850
census, but they are too young for a marriage in 1822..
In the will of William Ashby, Sr. dated May 27, 1845 Margaret Ashby, wife,
real and personal property for her natural life. At her death the lawful
heirs, living and all that may be born hereafter, of Samuel H. Johnson
share equally in the residue of estate.
Executor: John Hathaway
Witness: William Barr, Ira J. Burch
Hope this helps.
